June 20 Groundbreaking A Success! About 250 people from the region joined the Groundbreaking celebration on Hyland Field. The rain cleared and the sun came out just before the gathering. 35 children took turns digging the first shovelfuls of their new school. See coverage in the Boston Globe (may require free login).

Brook Street Field Construction has begun The contract for construction of a synthetic athletic field at the Coach Ed athletic field at the corner of Brook Street and Norwood Avenue has been awarded to David White Company of Manchester NH. Construction has begun. The goal is to complete construction in time for the Fall season.
The major steps (not necessarily in this order) in this process are:
1. installation of temporary construction fencing and haybales
2. strip soil and remove
3. earthwork including ledge removal that may require limited blasting
4. drainage, retaining wall, and utilities
5. fencing
6. turf installation
7. ramp construction, paving, and landscaping
The existing walkway from Brook Street to the Memorial School parking lot will be closed during construction. We recognize that this will inconvenience the neighbors, students and parents that use the walk each day, but it is necessary to ensure everybody’s safety.
Middle High School and Hyland Field Project The contract for construction of the new Middle High School and Hyland Field has been awarded to TLT Construction. Work will begin soon.
SBC Meetings The School Building Committee meets regularly on the first Monday of the month and as needed at other times, usually at 7:00 p.m. in Room 25 of the Middle High School. Please check the School Building Committee Calendar for current meeting dates, time and location and to sign up for an email notification. The public is always welcome.
